Spektro Records: from art collective to independent record label

Spektro Records started as a series of parties among friends and ended up becoming an independent record label focused on our own releases and physical vinyl editions crafted in an artisanal way.

Spektro Records: from artistic collective to independent record label

The history of Spektro Records is the history of a project that knew how to adapt to different moments without losing its identity. A journey that went through several formats and stages, but always maintained the same goal: to build and contribute.

Although today it functions as a label focused on releasing its own members' music, the project started several years earlier and under a completely different form. Before the releases, the vinyls, and the distributors, Spektro was a party series.

We spoke directly with one of its founders, Lucas Loyato.

The beginnings: a party among friends

He tells us that the project was born in 2018 from a group of friends connected to electronic music who decided to organize their own event. What began as a pilot test quickly grew to become a kind of artistic collective where DJs, producers, photographers, VJs, and people from different creative fields coexisted.

The idea was always to build something bigger than just a party. There were roles, a working structure, and a search for community that accompanied the project from the very beginning and is the reason why it remains relevant today.

As happened with much of the scene, the pandemic changed everything.

"After the halt, sustaining the party format became increasingly difficult, and the group went through various internal changes. In that context, an inevitable question arose: how to move forward without letting all the work built up to that point die?", Lucas tells us.

The response ended up settling on the obvious: the music.

The birth of the label

Although the idea of having a label had always been present, it wasn't until 2023 that it began to take a concrete shape. During that year, they dedicated themselves to planning the project, and in 2024 the first releases arrived.

Today Spektro operates mainly as a platform to publish the music of its members: Coeur, Dj Bahia, and Lucas Loyato. Far from seeking a single aesthetic line, the label brings together quite different approaches. While some of its members explore more hypnotic and deep sounds, others move closer to industrial territories or more dancefloor-oriented approaches.

This diversity was precisely one of the reasons that ended up defining the label's current profile. Instead of trying to fit all those visions within the same artistic direction, they opted to turn Spektro into a space where each member could develop their own musical language and still coexist in harmony.

Vinyl, identity, and hand-crafted work

But perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the project appears in its relationship with the physical format.

Spektro also bets on vinyl editions made in a practically hand-crafted way. From decisions regarding the artwork to manufacturing details, the artists participate in every stage of the process.

And when we talk about participating, we mean that literally. The records are cut at Asociación Ilícita Records, where Dj Bahia, one of the members of the project, works with a machine dedicated to manufacturing vinyl. A level of involvement that is unusual even within the independent scene.

The result is limited runs, conceived more as collector's items than as simple physical mediums for music. A way of recovering part of that physical bond with the artwork.

Beyond formats or the number of releases, there is something that spans the entire history of Spektro: the feeling of building and contributing.

What started as a party among friends ended up transforming into a label, a launch platform, and a tool to keep connecting and contributing to the scene.
