Ellissir: Depth and Hypnotic Techno Narrative in “La Puerta Negra”
Within the deeper and more mental side of techno, there are artists who develop their sound patiently, building tracks that unfold slowly and aim to create a more hypnotic techno immersive experience on the dancefloor. Producer Ellissir has been exploring this direction for some time, and his new track “La Puerta Negra” is a clear reflection of that approach.
The track is part of Articulated Lair, a new VA released by Semantica Records, where he appears alongside artists such as Ruman, Jero Clares, Irazu, Filip Xavi, Mohamed Kafarsoussa, RVDMNTL, Mesh Convergence, Ana Alves and Biorc.
We spoke with Ellissir about his connection with the label, the creative process behind the track, and his perspective on hypnotic techno within the current scene.
Interview with Ellissir about "La Puerta Negra" (Hypnotic Techno)
How did the connection with Semantica happen? Do you feel your sound naturally fit the label, or was it something you consciously aimed for?
It was always one of my goals within my career. Since I started producing, I’ve been heavily influenced by the musical direction of the artists releasing on Semantica, and that’s still true today.
Over time I tried to shape my sound in a way that could live up to that level, and I began preparing a demo for Enrique. Around that time a friend told me he was going on tour in Europe for a few months, so I sent a physical demo to Svreca through him.
It was a cassette with six tracks, and on the cover there was a QR code that linked to a Drive folder with around thirty more productions.
Tell us a bit about the track you’re releasing. What was the creative process behind “La Puerta Negra”?
“La Puerta Negra” was a very special process. The track caught my attention from the very beginning when I started building it from the foundations, especially during the selection of drum samples.
After that came the sound design work on the main synth, which was probably the longest part of the process. It took me several months to really understand the type of dynamics I wanted to give it and how much presence it should have within the track.
Once it was finished, I think I must have remixed it around ten times before arriving at the final version. It was almost a year of work, and then another year passed before it was finally released.
Your music creates quite an immersive experience on the dancefloor. Why did you gravitate toward that kind of sound?
For me, hypnotic techno is much more than a musical genre. It’s a lifestyle and part of my everyday life. It’s also a constant search for evolution.
That approach naturally influences the kind of music I make. I’m interested in building something that can evolve over time on the dancefloor and create a deeper experience.
Do you feel this kind of sound was somewhat hidden for a while and is now gaining strength again?
Yes, I feel that in recent years the techno industry has been quite saturated with many subgenres that claim to be techno but don’t really represent the values or the essence of the genre.
I’m not saying they are wrong, but I do think that for a while the deeper sound was a bit overlooked. Labels like Semantica Records help keep that essence alive through the way they curate their releases.
Which artists or labels have you been listening to lately?
I usually look for hypnotic techno on labels like Speculations LTD, Non Series, Solitär, Collapse, Faut Section, Keyhole, Legend 1997, Semantica or Warm Up, among others.
And artists that often appear in my sets include Kolpos, Pulso, Neen, Derue, Carmelo Ponente, Lakej, Hugo Rolan, David Reina, Endplate, Linear Phase, Null Forms, Biorc and Audio Resistance, among many others.

With “La Puerta Negra,” Ellissir adds another piece to a path he has been developing for quite some time: techno built through detail, patience and sonic exploration.
His participation in Articulated Lair also connects him with a catalog that has historically been an important space for deep and hypnotic techno within the underground scene, reaffirming an aesthetic where texture, repetition and narrative remain central elements on the dancefloor.
