PULSO: the underground techno scene unites to help Venezuela

More than 90 underground techno projects come together in PULSO, a solidarity initiative that raises funds to help the communities affected by the earthquake in Venezuela.

PULSO: helping affected communities in Venezuela through underground techno

Underground techno proves time and again that it can also become a support network when the situation demands it. After the recent earthquake in Venezuela, more than 90 independent electronic music projects decided to unite in PULSO, a collective initiative that seeks to raise funds to assist affected communities.

Much more than an underground techno compilation

Although the project is presented through music, the proposal goes much further than a record release. PULSO was conceived as a tool to channel financial aid transparently, using Bandcamp as a fundraising platform and allocating 100% of the net income from each volume to organizations working directly on the ground.

The initiative will consist of three volumes, published a few weeks apart, allowing the aid to adapt to the different stages of the emergency and the needs that arise over time.

The first volume will support the work of Fundación Proyecto Maniapure

The first release will allocate all its net income to Fundación Proyecto Maniapure, an organization that currently maintains medical teams working in La Guaira, providing emergency care and collaborating with the distribution of medicines and supplies for the affected families. The choice is due both to their track record and their operational capacity and the possibility of receiving international donations directly.

Transparency as part of the project

One of the most interesting aspects of PULSO is the importance it places on transparency. The organization will publish regular reports on the funds raised, the fees deducted, and the transfers made, in addition to the receipts issued by the beneficiary organization. All this information will be publicly available so that anyone can follow the journey of the funds.

They also decided to maintain a low profile as organizers. The focus is not on those driving the initiative or the participating artists, but on the people affected by the emergency and the work carried out by the organizations receiving the aid.

When the underground techno scene organizes

Beyond the music, projects like PULSO show another side of underground techno: that of a community that can also organize to respond to a critical situation.

Within the fabric of the underground techno scene, projects continue to emerge that don’t just aim to release music, but to build something broader: a language, a concept, a place. This is where Pulsión operates — a platform created by Maite (Mae) that proposes a different way of thinking about the relationship between sound, image and experience.
